Kate Beckinsale Wipes Instagram After Brutal Weight-Shaming

The actress said she has battled a chronic disorder for 16 years.

Actress Kate Beckinsale wiped her Instagram clean after reaching her breaking point with comments about her weight.

The 53-year-old Serendipity star deleted every post from her account, which has amassed over 5 million followers, after sharing dozens of screenshots on Saturday of cruel remarks about her appearance.

“Loosen up the [Ozempic]!! You were divine and now you look anorexic!” read one comment she screenshotted and shared.

Another blunt comment told her to “gain weight you f--- it.”

Beckinsale responded by pointing to the personal losses and health problems she says have contributed to her weight loss.

Her mother, actress Judy Loe, died in July 2025, less than two years after her stepfather, director Roy Battersby, died in January 2024.

“You take a break from Instagram for several months following the death of your mother,” Beckinsale wrote, “delete all of your posts and explain in some considerable detail about why you may have lost weight, including the fact that weight loss is one of the very first physical signs of bereavement.”

The Underworld actress also reportedly shared a 13-part video discussing mast cell activation syndrome, or MCAS, which she said she was diagnosed with 16 years ago.

“As I’m sure you’re aware, anytime I post a photo of myself, I receive an enormous amount of comments telling me how disgusting I look and I’m anorexic or I’m on meth or that I’ve lost so much weight,” Beckinsale said, according to Metro UK.

She called her stomach “ground zero” for when the condition flares.

MCAS occurs when mast cells release excessive chemicals that can cause allergy-like symptoms throughout the body. Symptoms can include stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, swelling, and trouble breathing.

Beckinsale suggested that, in her case, the condition can make eating difficult.

After one person commented, “You must eat please,” she responded, “Having just made several slides post about how eating could actually kill me, this is a little beyond.”

Her attempt to explain the condition did not stop the insults from flooding in.

When one commenter wrote that her “voice creaks like a door,” Beckinsale said she can experience “crippling acid reflux” during a flare.

In another Story, Beckinsale said she had hoped sharing her experience would raise awareness about a condition she believes is poorly understood.

“I genuinely thought it would be helpful to raise some awareness about a disease that so many doctors don’t understand and it causes so much suffering,” she wrote.

Despite her good intentions, the overwhelmingly negative response appeared to leave the actress ready to dial back her social media use.

After one commenter wrote, “I liked you better when I didn’t hear you speak,” Beckinsale replied, “Well, you won’t again. I’ll delete everything except for the books I recommend.”

Beckinsale has been fielding questions about her shrinking frame for years.

In May 2024, she responded to another wave of comments about her weight by revealing that her thin appearance was due in part to a “severe flare-up” of MCAS.

“That’s what I am prepared to disclose that has contributed to some weight loss,” she wrote at the time.

She also said she was “trying to survive what feel like unbearable losses” while coping with her stepfather’s death and her mother’s health problems.

Beckinsale has also cited MCAS while shutting down speculation that she has had Botox or fillers, saying the condition makes cosmetic injections risky for her.

“I actually can’t,” she wrote in response to one commenter in 2023. “I have a condition called mast cell activation syndrome which is actually a massive daily struggle and means I react to hundreds of things badly. Can’t take the risk.”

This time, however, the criticism appears to have pushed her off Instagram altogether.

Before clearing the account, Beckinsale shared one final question from a commenter asking whether she would like to gain weight.

“Yes,” she replied. “Very much.”
