I Used Cardi B’s Grow-Good Hair Collection for a Month—Here Are My Thoughts

Cardi B finally restocked her recently launched hair care collection, so I put it to the test.

When it comes to shampoo and conditioners, I used to be open to using a variety of products as long as I liked the smell and texture. I quickly realized this wasn’t the best approach, as everyone’s hair type varies: in my case, I have a lot of hair, but my strands are fine. This means that product can build up quickly in my hair, giving it a piecey, weighed-down look. Plus, I have a wavy texture that’s quite stubborn unless blow-dried or styled wet-to-dry.

I was curious when Cardi B announced she was releasing her own hair care line, Grow-Good. During the COVID-19 lockdown days, I took some cues from her Instagram hair tips, including a DIY avocado hair mask for moisture support. At the time, my hair was fairly damaged from using old straighteners and curling irons, but Cardi’s at-home mask recipe was a key factor in nursing it back to health. It seems this recipe was the basis of her new Get Rich hydrating mask, my favorite in the collection.

These days, I try to limit the heat exposure my tresses endure, but I have been styling them with the T3 Aire 360, which has been my favorite hair tool to date because it causes far less breakage than other heat-styling tools. With that said, I have noticed my hair erring a little more on the dry side lately, so I decided to give Grow-Good’s shampoo, conditioner, mask, and serum a try.

The line focuses on hair growth and retention, hydration, and strengthening, all of which I’m interested in. After all, I figured if I loved her DIY hair mask so much, I’m sure this new formula would be equally as impressive. I was immediately wowed by the packaging for the “Wash Cycle” shampoo and ”Soft Serve” conditioner in squeeze-tube bottles that feel both functional and elevated.

Wash Cycle Repair Shampoo

The scent leans more into fresh botanicals with notes of bergamot and eucalyptus than anything heavily sweet, which I’d compare to a grown-up version of Herbal Essences.

On my first use of the shampoo, I did one wash—and the next two, finding that my scalp felt refreshingly cleansed both times. The conditioner required more trial and error for my hair type: the first time, I used a generous amount all over, and found that my hair felt soft and nourished, but weighed down from too much product. On the next try, I avoided my roots and focused on my ends, leaving it in for a total of 5 minutes (the directions say you can leave it on for up to 10). I noticed the conditioner was much more effective for me when applied this way, and functioned more like a mask than a deep conditioner.

With that in mind, I waited to try the mask until I had a handle on the shampoo and conditioner. For me, using both the conditioner and mask in one wash was too heavy for my hair, but swapping out the conditioner once a week for the mask was the sweet spot between nourished but still bouncy.

Soft Serve Repair Conditioner

The conditioner is powered by the brand’s proprietary Fiberlace technology, infused with moringa seed, avocado oil, and mango seed butter, among others. This blend helps both shield and repair the hair and scalp from heat damage—whether from hair tools or the sun.

As for the Everything Serum, a little goes a long way: this multi-purpose product mainly worked for me on wet hair as heat protection, or in a sparing amount to deal with frizz (always an issue in humid New York City). I also noticed my hair was significantly shinier with regular use.

Despite the trial and error, I would recommend Grow-Good’s hair system for anyone looking to focus on hair growth, repairing damage, or who uses heat-based tools to style frequently. The line is well-priced, effective, and fun to use, thanks to the packaging and scent.
